Schedule Discord announcements with a webhook

By the Postuva team · Updated

Discord doesn't let you schedule messages natively. Postuva schedules them through a channel webhook: in the channel's settings create a webhook, copy its URL, paste it into Postuva and schedule messages of up to 2,000 characters with images. No bot needs to be installed on your server.

Can you schedule messages on Discord?

Not natively. Discord's Events feature schedules events, not messages. To post a message at a set time you need a bot or a scheduler that uses webhooks. Webhooks are the simplest option because they only grant permission to post in one channel.

Why schedule Discord announcements?

Discord communities are global, so the right time for an announcement is rarely the time you're online. Scheduling lets you post release notes, event reminders and community news when most members are around, and line them up with the same announcement on X, Telegram or your newsletter. Consistent announcements also train members to check the channel, which keeps the community active.

How do I schedule a Discord message?

  1. Create a webhook. In Discord open the channel's settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook. Name it and pick an avatar if you like.
  2. Copy the URL. Click Copy Webhook URL.
  3. Connect in Postuva. Open Channels → Discord and paste the URL.
  4. Schedule. Write the announcement, add images, pick a time and press Schedule.

Announce everywhere at once

Product launches and community news usually go to Discord, X and a Telegram channel at the same time. Select all three on one post in Postuva and each gets the format it needs.

What makes a good Discord announcement?

Keep announcements under 2,000 characters, which is Discord's message limit. Postuva's counter turns red if you go over, and images are shown as embeds under the message.

  • A bold first line that says what's new: Discord supports markdown, so bold the headline.
  • Why members should care, in one or two sentences.
  • One clear action: a link, a reaction to vote with, or the event channel.
  • Mentions used sparingly: @everyone notifies every member, so save it for big news.

Webhook or bot: which should you use?

For scheduled announcements a webhook is the simplest and safest option, which is why Postuva uses one. If a webhook URL is ever exposed, delete it in the channel settings and connect a new one.

Discord limits compared with other networks

Discord allows 2,000 characters and up to 10 image embeds per message, which is more room than X or Bluesky and less than LinkedIn or Telegram. When you cross-post, each network's limit is checked separately.

Worked example: a weekly community update

Friday, 17:00 UTC: “This week in Northwind ☕ New Huila single-origin is in, Saturday workshops are back (8 seats), and the community playlist got 40 new tracks. Thanks for all the suggestions!” Add one image as an embed.

Members across time zones see it at the end of their week, the same update goes to Telegram, and a shorter version goes to X and Bluesky. All of it is scheduled in one post.

Troubleshooting Discord webhooks

  • “Unknown Webhook”: the webhook was deleted; create a new one and reconnect.
  • Message too long: Discord allows 2,000 characters; shorten or split it.
  • Image not showing: the link must be public and point to an image file.
  • @everyone didn't notify: the webhook's channel or role settings may block mass mentions.

Which Discord channels should get scheduled posts?

Keep announcement channels read-only and low volume so members trust that a notification there is worth reading. Put conversation prompts in general channels instead. Each channel needs its own webhook; connect each one as a separate channel in Postuva and pick the right one per post.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to add a bot to my server?

No. A webhook is enough and only posts to the channel it was created in.

Can I mention @everyone?

Yes, include @everyone in the text, as long as your webhook's channel allows it.

What happens if the webhook is deleted?

The post fails with Discord's reason and the channel is flagged so you can reconnect a new webhook.

Can I schedule to several Discord servers?

Yes. Create a webhook in each channel and connect each one as its own channel.

Can I change the name and avatar that posts appear under?

Yes, set them on the webhook in Discord's channel settings.

Can Discord schedule messages without a bot?

Not natively. A webhook is the simplest way: it posts on a schedule without installing a bot on your server.

Is scheduling Discord messages free?

Yes, Discord is included in Postuva's free plan.

How do I find a Discord webhook URL?

Open the channel's settings (the gear icon), go to Integrations, then Webhooks. Create a new webhook or select an existing one and click Copy Webhook URL.

Can scheduled Discord posts include links with previews?

Yes. Discord shows link previews for URLs in the message as usual.
